CHRISTMAS WISH!!!

Friday 23 December 2016

Hey people! What a time to be alive.

Tomorrow is Christmas eve and it is one of the best days for me. Let's just say it is pretty much the merriest part of the season for me (please don't ask why).

With all that comes with Christmas, the trees, the lights, the gifts, the parties... It is said to be the season to be Merry....But is it really?

It's so easy for us to get caught up in our own selves and lives without remembering how things could be or are for others. We forget that the world is full of unpleasantness and bad things don't take a break from happening just because its Christmas.

Last night, I got a bit bored so I began to scroll through my WhatsApp contact list and I was shocked to see that two friends of mine had recently updated their status/pictures to announce the death of a parent. I was so weak that I just sat on my bed and journeyed into the world of thoughts.

A few days ago, a friend of mine put up a fellow uni friend/course mate's picture, captioning rest in peace and I couldn't help but wonder how this Christmas would be especially for his family..

Today, I read about the five passengers of an Onitsha bound commercial vehicle who lost their lives to a crash in Anambara state, a mother and two children who lost their lives in same manner, at Ogun state, a police man who killed a driver for not giving bribe, a man suffering from a chronic kidney disease and needs about 50million naira for a transplant, a lady whose mum was recently kidnapped, terrorism here and there...the list could go on.

So yes, not everyone is having a merry Christmas. I talk to some friends and even in this season of cheer, some are still hurting, lonely, ailing or wailing.

I was seeing a movie a few days ago and in one of the scenes, they had a make-a-wish Christmas tree filled with wishes from kids and lonely beings. It really touched me to see wishes like 'I wish I can sleep in my own bed again', I wish I could have my patents back together again, "I wish you didn't have to go so soon"....

This Christmas, I'm reminded once again, how much I have to be thankful for. I may not have the perfect life, the perfect job, the desired account balance, but I've got loads of love, sound health and my loved ones too. I am more than thankful to God for the year 2016. When I look back and think about the things I went through and overcame this year, I can only say God is real. It's been all shades of Grace upon my life. And I wish that this Christmas would not only be a time to make merry but to also reflect on the true meaning of christmas.

To you my lovely readers, I wish you love, peace, happiness, sound health and a brand new start of year 2017.
